Reading Cinémonde, 1946


The issue Charlie is reading (below) is dated April 16th, 1946 (his 57th birthday). Note Charlie's (real) mustache for Monsieur Verdoux.

    Is he reading it or just looking at the photos? I didn't think he could speak or read French.

      He didn't, although his cousin, Betty, seemed to think he understood it somewhat. I didn't think "reading" was going to be taken literally, I guess I should have said "looking".
