I could find no details about this visit. It was mentioned only in passing in a Singapore newspaper. There are a number of photos in the Chaplin Archive that are labeled "Johore"* and in some of them Paulette and her mother are wearing different outfits, so they could have had more than one visit with Sultan Ibrahim, including during their return to Singapore in April.

This was the gang's last day in Singapore. Tomorrow they they head to Java. Stay tuned.

ReplyDeleteWhat great photos. I stumbled on this blog while doing research on my family tree (Julius and Joe Fisher are my great uncles). Julius was killed during the Japanese invasion of Singapore in 1942. Joe happened to be in the US at the time, but lost everything. He remained in the US after the war, making a living giving lectures about his travels

Thanks - they were very helpful. Just a correction, it's Joe in the 2 bottom pictures on this page, not Julius. Julius is the thinner one, with more hair :)
