"Mr. Chaplin's Daily Program"

A peak at Charlie's daily schedule from Motion Picture Magazine, May 1918.

Charlie "flies around like a bee in a bottle" and "works like lightning until 3 A.M. when everyone is used up." But he is also chauffeured around in his "machine" to fancy nightclubs and restaurants.

  1. Any background on the baseball pic? Was this at the time of the comedians vs. tragedians charity game? What's the insignia stand for?

    1. Yes, it's from the charity game. Here are some other photos: Thttp://www.discoveringchaplin.com/2013/07/charlie-participates-in-baseball-game.html

The insignia looks like an "MP" so "Motion Picture" maybe?

  2. Maybe Mutual Pictures? That game was 1917. But didn't CC pitch? Caption says shortstop.

    1. Yes, he was the pitcher. Evidently there was another charity game later that year--a benefit for U.S. soldiers set up by Douglas Fairbanks and Billy Sunday. Charlie and Mary Pickford were named "honorary umpires."
