Charlie & Jinx Falkenburg at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, 1941
Jinx was a close friend of Paulette Goddard's and often attended parties and played tennis at the Chaplin home. Charlie briefly dated her after his breakup with Paulette.
There's no evidence that he ever dated Merna--that could easily have been a figment of Lita's overactive imagination. As far as Jinx. Charlie and Paulette were long over by this time and she openly flirted with a number of his friends while they were still together. Plus, and I might be alone in this opinion, but I've never felt that Charlie and Paulette were ever deeply in love, as much as I think they enjoyed their time together.
Yeah, if you look at Hollywood in general during that time, everyone was dating everyone - married or not! I have a collection of movie magazines from the 1930's and boy, it was quite a carousal that everyone was on.
Awkward. Or,knowing Paulette, she probably didn't care. I mean, according to the Gilbert biography, Jinx was bunking in at Paulette's house in 1943.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she cared. It didn't seem to affect her relationship with either one of them.
DeleteEven if she didn't care, it's wierd.
ReplyDeleteEven if she didn't care, it's always a wierd thing. She (and Merna Kennedy) were his ex-wives friends! It's just not right...
