  2. They are not laughing enough for the feeding machine and Paulette's not in her costume. Had to be the scenes around his jail time.

    1. There are other behind-the-scenes shots taken this same day on the factory set & the factory boss' office. It's hard to tell where they are filming here though.

    1. This dissertation for a Louisiana college credit had some marvelous insights into Chaplin vs progress. I remember the scene where Paulette and he are living in the rustic shack by a dirty stream and he gets up for work in the morning now re-employed at the factory on the horizon just yards away. The juxtaposition of opposite ideas is there. It is poetry portrayed by the lens.
      Emerson to Chaplin : By an essayist reviewing modernism and the transcendentalists. Well worth reading the chapters that concentrate Chaplin and his film era contemporaries.
