I have never seen a Chaplin film with a live orchestra so I'm vey excited. There was a nice write-up about the show in the Lexington paper yesterday, so I hope some people will come out to see it. Unfortunately, there is a UK (University of KY) basketball game on TV tonight (UK vs LSU in the SEC tournament), and here in the Big Blue Nation that trumps everything. Even though my husband is a fan of both Charlie and orchestral music, I know he'll still be dying to check the score about halfway through the show.

ReplyDeleteI posted a couple of photos on Facebook.I was going to write up something here but just haven't had time. The orchestra did a fantastic job. At times you almost forgot that they were playing live. The audience laughed in all the right places and seemed to really enjoy it. The guy next to me laughed hysterically at the scene where Charlie unknowingly uses a dog leash for a belt. There was enthusiastic applause following the roll dance & the scene where Charlie escapes from the cabin before it goes over the cliff. It was a great evening--and very well-attended, much to my surprise.
DeleteYay! I love it when people enjoy Chaplin films! It lets me know that there are still people who are into that sort of comedy and can appreciate the classics. I always find interesting that some older people have never heard of Charlie while my college aged self knows tons about him. I find that very strange.
DeleteMy mother-in-law will be 99 next month (she was born the same day the film "The Tramp" was released). Although she has heard of Chaplin, she has never seen one of his films, not even as a little girl. She claims it's because the small town in Indiana where she grew up didn't have a movie theater.
