This film may have been taken when they were either en route or returning from Hawaii in 1917. Edna doesn't appear until the last few seconds. Many thanks to Dominique Dugros sharing this with me. This is another rare clip that he found on the French documentary

aww I love the end with Edna when he kiss her and then tipping his hat, such a gentleman. They were the perfect couple <3
ReplyDeleteIt might be hard to notice on this small screen, but after he kisses her, Edna playfully slaps his hand.
DeleteThere is something so compelling to me about seeing the light, graceful, energetic way he moved in real life and the expressions that flitted across his face, so different from the way he moved and looked as the Tramp. He really did transform himself when he acted.
ReplyDeleteI agree. To me, he seems very shy here (which we all know he was in real life). At one point, he heaves a sigh and then hides his face behind his hand. Not long after, Edna shows up, almost as if she's coming to his rescue.
DeleteOh my god, to watch Charlie and Edna kiss not on screen and as each other. I think I'm weirdly fangirling about that. Anyway, Jess how you get these things and such will never cease to amaze me. You should have been a researcher for something.
