Filmed at the Venice Dance Hall, this film is unique because its three main characters (Chaplin, Roscoe Arbuckle, and Ford Sterling) appear without their usual costumes and make-up. Basic plot: three men vie for the attentions of the hat check girl at the dance hall.

I have always liked this short. It shows Charlie young, thin and cute with no make-up. His butt fighting cracks me up. I think the other 2 leads were funny too. The footage of the real dance contest was pretty bad bur I love the historical aspect of it. It's a time capsule from hundred years ago of people out on a Saturday night having fun. So cool!
ReplyDeleteThe part with Charlie sticking his heinie out during the fight was a highlight for me and my 8-year-old daughter, too--we were laughing uncontrollably at the pure silliness. Carrie (sorry--I still can't seem to figure out how to select a profile other than "Anonymous"!
