I wondered the same thing, but if this is circa 1939, it may not be the button-ups. The story goes that Charlie didn't stop wearing them until he met Oona, but I think he gave them up by the late '30s.
I wonder if it was some gathering of "The Women" stars (sans Norma, of course)...
