Charlie at home, c. mid-1930s

  1. Everything looks so pristine. I'd read that he had the set builders at the studio work on building his home. Rumor had it that his house easily fell apart at odd times.
I like Charlie's home. It must've been hard for him not to return from Europe after the Limelight tour. But, I suppose in the McCarthy era many celebrities were taking leases out on bunkers abroad already. The govt could appropriate your bank accounts and holdings in America too if it accused you of certain types of espionage. Must've been an especially good run for Zurich bankers.
