This is not quite related to the play but do you know the song Goodbye Charlie, recorded by Bobby Darin in the early sixties? It's written by Andre Previn and his wife Dory. Maybe it's because I like Chaplin, but I sure think of him whenever I listen to it, it's uncanny. I don't suppose you know if there's any actual link between them, but I would love to hear if you know of any references to him in song. I'm doing a bit of research which involves his absorption pop culture.
P.S. Your site is brilliant. The internet would be a better place if all aficionados of anything were like you.
There were a number of songs written about Chaplin during the "Chaplinitis" craze in 1915, including "Those Charlie Chaplin Feet" and "That Charlie Chaplin Walk." A nice listing of earlier tunes can be found here (left-hand side) http://www.perfessorbill.com/comps/cchaplin.shtml
Some more recent songs include "City Lights" by Lou Reed, "Charlie Chaplin" by Peter, Sue, & Marc, "Modern Times" by J-Five, and "Charlie Chaplin" by Katie Herzig.
