This little clip is part of the French documentary
La Naissance de Charlot that is included in the new Flicker Alley Mutuals set & is supposed to be an outtake of Chaplin bouncing on a trampoline. This footage has been the topic of discussion elsewhere on the internet and I am in agreement with other fans who don't think this is Chaplin. The mustache & the derby are too big. He doesn't move like Chaplin. The whole thing just isn't quite right. This has to be an impersonator.
Seems too tall.
ReplyDeleteCharlie's arms were short. Look at the length of these legs and arms. Also coming down the steps you can see the hip span was a little broad. Charlie had tiny ribs and smallish hips and short arms. And his pants would not have risen all the way to the crotch of his body.
ReplyDeleteThe walk down the steps seems too stiff. Like a cosplayer to trying to get it right while also not trying to fall down the stairs and break their neck.
ReplyDeleteIt's also in the documentary "Chaplin Today" on the City Lights Mk2 dvd .... would have they made this mistake ?
ReplyDeleteIs it? I don't remember that. I'll have to watch it again. I believe this footage comes from the archive...
DeleteThat's right!
