Note that Paulette is wearing the famous diamond and emerald bracelet that Chaplin supposedly gave to her when she lost the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. She must have adored this piece of jewelry because she wore it often. She even wore it in her first scene in The Women (below):

What the heck is she wearing on her head? It looks like a ski hat with a scarf attached. In LA.
ReplyDeleteDid I mention that I saw that jewelry set in person? Legion of Honor Museum years ago, part of a "Hollywood Jewels" exhibit. That bracelet is shiny bright gold with huge diamonds and emerald cabochons! Looked very heavy, and the earrings looked like they could drag your earlobes down. There was a pin as well. The card next to the jewelry also mentions Chaplin buying the pieces for her as consolation for the loss of the Scarlet role.
The bracelet looks like it would be heavy. I wonder if Charlie himself picked out this jewelry or if it was something Paulette had admired previously.
