Here is a compilation I put together of rare interview excerpts, probably from c. 1979, featuring Jackie Coogan, Lita Grey Chaplin, and Sydney Chaplin. These clips were extracted from the documentary
Great Romances Of the 20th Century: Charlie & Oona Chaplin (1998).*
Note: Eric James tells a different version of Sydney's bathroom story
here (or maybe it happened twice!)
*Many thanks to my dear friend, Lucy.
What a nice clip, thank you ! Lita did not seem to have bitterness about Charlie, did she ?
ReplyDeleteNo, she didn't. Lita herself said that she mellowed over the years and I think that's evident here.
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the clip!
Wow, I love Jackie's comments, which I'd never heard before--I love the physical detail of how he knew Chaplin was going to blow when he put his hand up over his forehead just so. Some of these interviews appear to be from the interviews that Kevin Brownlow did for his Hollywood and Unknown Chaplin series--do you think they were? The Lita one especially seems familiar to me.
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely not from "Unknown Chaplin." I think they might be from a 1979 BBC series called "Hollywood Greats." This shows up on all three of their IMDB profiles and seems to fit since "Great Romances," the documentary from which I pulled these interviews, was also on the BBC. However, this is just a guess, so if anyone out there knows differently, please let me know.
