"Hollywood's Malibu Beach" by Miguel Covarrubias

This drawing initially appeared in Vanity Fair, August 1933

Chaplin is hard to miss, just look for gray hair and teeth. He's also one of the few in a suit (of course).

    I like Kay Francis over by the fence, behind the guy in the boater. She's leaning back on her arms.

      The guy in the boater is Maurice Chevalier, her then-boyfriend, if I'm not mistaken.

    The Sotheby's site is rich rich in finds!

    Everything in the painting looks so modern in a way. Hard to believe it was a 1933 artwork. There was so much genius back then springing up. And all those stars at the same beach party. Reminds me of the film I saw yesterday with EVERYBODY in Hollywood....A Midsummer Night's Dream.
