The blonde might be Carmel Snow. This appears to have been taken at the same time as this group photo at the Hearst dining table and these photos of CC and Marion Davies.
what? No Paulette?? I saw some photos of her there later, in the late 30's, and those ones at the tennis court at San Simeon where Chaplin is serenading her with his racket. I wonder how Chaplin balanced Davies and Goddard - though didn't he take Lita there once or twice, too?
Yes, he did take Lita there and she and Davies became friends until she found out about their affair. I agree, it's interesting that Paulette isn't around. I remember reading that early in their relationship she went to NY a couple of times. I think her mother was living there then.
I don't think it's her. There is another photo from this gathering (I don't have it posted) that shows this woman from a different angle. She's appears a bit heavier than Paulette.
In answer to the above, I think CC was way beyond and done with Marion at this point. If you look at the other photos, you can see she's not aging well...
I just came back from San Simeon, it was fabulous. I want to see it again sometime, so I can scope out where some of these photos were taken. I told the tour guide about your site and about all your great photos and info about the castle, as we were in a big discussion about Marion Davies. It was tres cool.
