At a premiere with George K. Arthur and Anita Murray, 1929

I believe Anita was a niece of William Randolph Hearst.

  1. Chaplin first met George K. Arthur in London in 1921 during a private showing of Kipps with H.G. Wells. Arthur then went to Hollywood, appeared in Sternberg's independent The Salvation Hunters, which Arthur also produced. The film got picked up by United Artists for distribution. After viewing the film Chaplin hired Sternberg for Woman of the Sea, and cast Georgia Hale for The Gold Rush.

    1. It was evidently because of Arthur that Chaplin ever saw Salvation Hunters. The story goes that he had it smuggled into Chaplin's home by bribing Kono.
